Solid Wood Parquet Herringbone
Wood Floor Installation
We install engineered wood, solid wood, parquet and herringbone floors across Sussex and Kent. Proper subfloor prep, moisture checks, and honest advice on fitting method, thresholds and finish.
A good wood floor starts before the first board is fitted
How a wood floor sits for the next twenty years comes down to what happens before fitting. Subfloor condition, moisture readings, floor levels, how the room is used, underfloor heating if there is any, expansion gaps, fitting method, door thresholds, trims and the type of floor chosen.
Wood flooring can look beautiful and last for years, but only if the floor is suitable and the prep is done properly. We inspect the space first and tell you what will and won’t work.
Engineered, solid, parquet and herringbone
Engineered wood flooring
More stable than solid wood, and a sensible choice over most modern subfloors.
Solid wood flooring
Traditional and long-lasting, where the subfloor and conditions suit it.
Herringbone flooring
Set out accurately from the centre of the room for a clean, square finish.
Chevron flooring
Mitred boards laid to a single point. More involved, but a striking result.
Commercial wood flooring
Pubs, restaurants, shops and offices, worked around opening hours where possible.
Reclaimed wood flooring
Where suitable. We’ll check condition, moisture and stability before quoting.
Sanding and finishing after install
Unfinished floors sanded and sealed on site for a tailored result.
Flooring repairs and adjustments
Boards replaced, gaps reviewed, thresholds and trims tidied up.

Honest answers before you enquire
Everything you need to know about Wood Floor Installation at Sussex Floor Care Limited.
What type of wood flooring is best for my home?
Depends on the subfloor, the room, the heating and how you use the space. Engineered wood suits a lot of modern homes. Solid wood still has its place. We’ll talk you through what makes sense before you commit.
Can wood flooring be fitted over concrete?
Usually, yes. The concrete needs to be dry, flat and tested for moisture. Engineered wood is typically the better fit over concrete subfloors.
Do you prepare the subfloor?
Yes, every time. Levelling, ply, damp-proofing and moisture testing as needed. A new wood floor over a bad subfloor is just an expensive future problem.
Do I need to move all the furniture?
Ideally yes, the rooms we’re working in need to be cleared. If that’s tricky, talk to us first and we’ll work something out.
Should I choose pre-finished or unfinished wood flooring?
Pre-finished is quicker on site. Unfinished gives more control over colour, sheen and a more tailored result once sanded. We’ll talk through which suits the job.
How do I look after a new wood floor?
Keep it dry, sweep regularly and clean with a proper wood floor cleaner. We give specific aftercare based on the finish used on your floor.
Is engineered wood better than solid wood?
Not better, but more stable. Engineered boards cope better with underfloor heating and modern subfloors. Solid wood lasts a long time in the right conditions but moves more with humidity.
Can wood flooring be fitted over underfloor heating?
Engineered wood, in most cases. The product has to be approved for use with UFH and the system needs commissioning correctly. Solid wood is usually not recommended.
How long does wood floor installation take?
Depends on the floor type, the area, and any preparation. A straightforward room can be done in a few days. Herringbone, chevron and on-site sanding add time.
Can you install parquet or herringbone flooring?
Yes. Both need careful setting out and accurate cuts. We do this regularly, including in older homes where the walls aren’t quite square.
Will my new floor need sanding after installation?
Only if it’s an unfinished floor or a site-finished parquet. Pre-finished boards don’t usually need sanding.
How much does wood floor installation cost?
Depends on the floor type, subfloor, room size and preparation needed. Send us a few photos and rough measurements and we’ll give you a fair guide before arranging a visit.
